Partnership facts

• Srikanth was a newcomer when director M. A. Thirumugam cast him opposite Jaishankar in Selva Magal (1967). Jaishankar, already a star, personally asked the director to give Srikanth a proper introduction scene — not just a walk-on.
• In Thanga Gopuram (1971), Jaishankar played the loud, impulsive brother while Srikanth played the quiet, responsible one. Srikanth later said Jaishankar deliberately underplayed his own scenes so Srikanth's silences would land harder.
• During the shoot of Maharasi Vazhga (1976), Jaishankar would drive Srikanth home every night after pack-up — even though Srikanth lived 20 km in the opposite direction. They'd stop for tea and rehearse the next day's lines together.
• Nallathukku Kalamillai (1977) was the first Tamil film where both male leads had equal screen time and neither was the clear hero. That structure directly influenced K. Bhagyaraj's later buddy films like Thooral Ninnu Pochu.
• Sakka Podu Podu Raja (1978) was originally written for Jaishankar alone. He refused to sign unless the script was rewritten to give Srikanth a parallel track. The producer agreed only after Jaishankar cut his own salary to cover the rewrite costs.
