• Director S. P. Muthuraman paired them for the first time in 'Japanil Kalyanaraman' (1985) because he needed a loud, chaotic comic duo to match the film's over-the-top premise — and he bet that Sarala's rapid-fire timing would force Goundamani to speed up his usual drawl. It worked so well that they became his go-to comedy pair for the next seven years.
• In 'Mannukkul Vairam' (1986), Goundamani would deliberately pause mid-dialogue to let Sarala jump in with a punchline — a trick he used to make her look quicker on screen. She later admitted in an interview that she had to learn to anticipate his pauses, turning their scenes into a game of timing chess.
• Their double-act in 'Karagattakaran' (1989) — where Sarala plays a nagging wife and Goundamani a henpecked husband — directly inspired the comedy track in the 1993 blockbuster 'Kalaignan'. The writer credited their 'bickering couple' template for that film's most quoted scenes.
• On the sets of 'Per Sollum Pillai' (1987), Goundamani would bring Sarala homemade snacks from his wife's kitchen every single day. She later said it was the only reason she didn't quit the film — the shoot was in a remote village with terrible catering.
