• Selva was a newcomer when he signed Rojavanam (1999). Malavika was already a known face. She agreed to do the film only after Selva personally narrated the script to her at her home — he was so nervous he stumbled through the first 10 minutes.
• On the sets of Manikanda (2007), Selva would deliberately mess up his lines in the first take to make Malavika laugh. She then relaxed and delivered her best performance. He told a magazine later that he did it because she was 'too serious' otherwise.
• After Naan Avanillai (2007) wrapped, Selva and Malavika stopped talking for nearly two years. No public fight — just a quiet drift. They only patched up at a mutual friend's wedding in 2009, where they danced together to a song from Rojavanam.
• Malavika once said in an interview: 'Selva is the only co-star who made me forget the camera. He doesn't act — he just becomes the character, and you have no choice but to become yours.'
• Their pairing in Rojavanam (1999) directly led to the director casting them again in Manikanda (2007). The director said he wrote the female lead specifically for Malavika because he couldn't imagine anyone else matching Selva's raw energy.
