• For Chaahat (1996), director Mahesh Bhatt originally wanted a different actor opposite Pooja Bhatt. Shahrukh Khan pushed for the role after reading the script, and Anupam Kher was cast as the villainous brother — their first face-off on screen.
• In Paheli (2005), Anupam Kher played Shahrukh's father-in-law. Kher later said Shahrukh deliberately underplayed his supernatural character so Kher's comic frustration could pop — a rare case of a superstar dimming his own wattage to make a co-star's scene work.
• Anupam Kher was one of the first people Shahrukh called after the success of Darr (1993). Kher had mentored him at the National School of Drama years earlier, and they stayed in touch through all three films — Kher often visited SRK's vanity van just to gossip about old theatre days.
