• Vinod Mehra personally recommended Om Shivpuri for the role of the villain in Aakhri Kasam (1979) after the director struggled to find a face that could match Mehra's intensity. Shivpuri was a theatre veteran but relatively unknown in films at the time.
• In Yeh Desh (1984), Om Shivpuri played a corrupt politician while Vinod Mehra played the righteous hero. Shivpuri later said in an interview that Mehra deliberately held back his own performance in their confrontation scenes so Shivpuri's menace would stand out more — a move Shivpuri called 'generous acting.'
• After Satyamev Jayate (1987) flopped, Vinod Mehra called Om Shivpuri and apologized — not for the film's failure, but because he felt he hadn't done justice to their scenes together. Shivpuri told him to stop being 'dramatic' and they laughed it off over chai at Mehra's house.
