• Thengai Srinivasan was a popular comedian when he was cast in 'Annai Velankanni' (1971). But Gemini Ganesan, already a huge star, personally requested the director to give Thengai a more substantial role than the script originally had. That film became their first together.
• In 'Velli Vizha' (1972), Gemini Ganesan played a strict father while Thengai Srinivasan played his comic sidekick. Thengai's timing was so sharp that Gemini started deliberately pausing his dialogues mid-sentence — just to give Thengai room to jump in with a one-liner. They built that rhythm on set, not in the script.
• During the shoot of 'Naan Avanillai' (1974), Gemini Ganesan would often forget his lines due to his heavy drinking. Thengai Srinivasan would quietly feed him the next line from off-camera, pretending it was part of the scene. The director never had to call a retake because of this.
