• They were thrown together by producer M. A. V. Pictures for Deivapiravi (1960) because the studio wanted a fresh pair to rival the reigning Sivaji Ganesan-Padmini combo. Neither had headlined a major hit before this.
• Rajendran was the loud, expressive performer; Rajam was the quiet reactor. In Thangam Manasu Thangam (1960), she deliberately slowed down her dialogue delivery to match his frantic energy — and that push-pull became the pair's signature rhythm.
• Their five-film run in just 18 months created a mini-genre: the 'village romance with a moral twist.' Mamiyarum Oru Veetu Maumagale (1961) directly inspired a wave of mother-in-law comedies in the 1960s, including the later hit Bama Vijayam.
• Rajendran and Rajam never spoke off-set. Not once. Rajam later told a magazine that he was 'too shy to even say good morning,' and she was too intimidated by his booming voice to break the silence. They acted like strangers between takes.
• Rajam once said: 'He would finish his lines and then stare at me until I delivered mine. It wasn't acting — it was a challenge. And I never backed down.'
• In Raja Desingu (1960), they had to perform a duet while standing on a rickety wooden bridge. Rajendran kept the bridge steady with his foot while Rajam sang — she later said that single gesture made her trust him completely on screen.
