Chandrasekhar paired them for the first time in 'Uyirullavarai Usha' (1983) because he needed a comedic duo that could match the film's emotional weight — Chandran's deadpan timing and Ganthimathi's explosive reactions were tested in a single rehearsal scene, and he locked them on the spot.
• In 'Vai Pandhal' (1984), Chandran would deliberately pause mid-dialogue to let Ganthimathi's facial expressions carry the punchline — a rhythm they never rehearsed, but discovered during the first day of shooting that became their signature.
