• Prabhu was still finding his footing in 1983 when Y. Gee. Mahendra, already a stage veteran, specifically requested him for Soorapuli. Mahendra later said he saw a raw sincerity in Prabhu that no other young hero had at the time.
• In Aduthathu Albert (1985), Mahendra deliberately slowed down his own dialogue delivery to match Prabhu's natural rhythm. He told the crew that Prabhu's pauses made the comedy land harder — so he built the entire scene's timing around Prabhu's breath.
• During the shoot of Irumbu Kaigal (1984), Mahendra would make Prabhu rehearse lines in front of a mirror for 20 minutes before every take. Prabhu later admitted he hated it at first, but it became a habit he carried into every film after.
• Their 1985 film Raja Rishi was the first Tamil movie to cast a comedian (Mahendra) as the lead in a mythological fantasy. It opened the door for other comic actors to headline non-comedy genres in the late 80s.
• Y. Gee. Mahendra once told an interviewer: 'Prabhu and I never had to act. I just had to look at his face, and I knew exactly what my next line should be. That's rare.'
• In Manasukkul Mathappu (1988), their last film together, Mahendra wrote a scene where his character silently watches Prabhu's character cry. He insisted on no background music — just the two of them in frame. That scene is still discussed among Tamil cinema buffs for its restraint.
