• They first acted together in 'Raja Desingu' (1960) only because the producer needed a quick replacement. The original heroine walked out two days into shooting, and Rajam was called in as an emergency fill-in. Thangavelu later said that last-minute swap saved the film.
• In 'Veerakkanal' (1960), Thangavelu deliberately slowed his dialogue delivery by half a beat so Rajam's reactions could land first. He told the director: 'She needs the space to breathe. I'll follow her rhythm.' That scene became the film's most talked-about moment.
• Their pairing in 'Pasamalar' (1961) directly inspired the sibling dynamic in the 1965 blockbuster 'Thiruvilayadal'. The director A. P. Nagarajan watched their scenes together and told his writer: 'Write me a brother-sister bond that burns like theirs.'
• On the sets of 'Thangam Manasu Thangam' (1960), Thangavelu and Rajam had a standing bet: whoever flubbed a line first had to buy the other a packet of Mysore Pak from the canteen. Rajam lost every single day — and Thangavelu never let her forget it.
• Rajam once told a magazine in 1962: 'Thangavelu made me feel like I was the only person in the frame. He never acted at me — he acted with me. That's why our four films feel like one long conversation.'
