• Janagaraj was a popular comedian when he was cast opposite Vijayakanth in Nooravathu Naal (1984). But the director, K. Shankar, actually paired them as a joke — he wanted Janagaraj's comic timing to undercut Vijayakanth's intense action hero image. It worked so well that they became a regular duo.
• In Ullathil Nalla Ullam (1988), Janagaraj improvised a whole scene where he mimics Vijayakanth's signature walk and dialogue delivery. Vijayakanth laughed so hard during the take that the director kept it in the final cut. That scene is still shared on Tamil meme pages.
• After Nallavan (1988) bombed hard — it got a 1/10 rating — Janagaraj reportedly told Vijayakanth, 'We should never do a film where I play your sidekick again.' They didn't. From then on, Janagaraj only played roles with equal screentime or comic relief that didn't depend on Vijayakanth's heroism.
• En Purushan Than Enakku Mattundhan (1989) was the only film where Janagaraj played the hero's friend who actually gets the girl — a rare win for a comedian in Tamil cinema. That film directly inspired the trend of 'comedian gets a love track' in 90s Tamil movies, starting with Goundamani in Chinna Gounder.
• Janagaraj once said in a 2003 interview: 'Vijayakanth gave me the confidence to be loud on screen. He never once told me to tone it down. He just stood there and let me do my thing.'
• Their last film together, Raajjiyam (2002), was shot in a single schedule of 25 days. Janagaraj later revealed that Vijayakanth personally paid him double his usual fee because the film's budget was tight. They never worked together again, but remained friends until Vijayakanth's death.
