• Murali was a newcomer when Ameerjan cast him in Poovilangu (1984). The director saw him in a small role and decided to build the entire film around his face. That film put both of them on the map.
• Ameerjan wrote every script with Murali's voice in mind. He said Murali could deliver a line with a pause that made the audience feel the silence. That rhythm became the signature of their films together.
• Their 1987 film Thulasi launched the career of actress Seetha. Ameerjan spotted her in a dance troupe and Murali insisted she be given the lead. She became a star after that one film.
