• They first shared screen space in Kranti (1981), a multi-starrer directed by Manoj Kumar. But the real pairing happened later that same year in Naseeb — where Amitabh Bachchan was the lead, and Hema and Shatrughan played the second couple. The director Manmohan Desai deliberately paired them as a comic-relief romantic duo, and audiences loved it so much that producers started casting them as a pair.
• In Taqdeer (1983), Shatrughan played a blind man and Hema played his love interest. He later admitted that Hema's patience on set — she would physically guide him through scenes without breaking character — made his performance believable. He said she 'became his eyes' during those shoots.
• Despite sharing seven films, Hema and Shatrughan never had a single reported fight or ego clash on set. In interviews, both have said they treated each other like siblings. Shatrughan once joked that Hema was 'the only heroine who never complained about my loud voice.'

• Their 1985 film Ramkali was a disaster — IMDb 2.6 — but it accidentally created a cult moment. The film's climax featured both of them in a sword fight, and that scene was later parodied in the 1990s comedy show Dekh Bhai Dekh. It’s the only thing anyone remembers from that film.
• Their last film together, Hum Mein Shahenshah Koun (2026), is a reunion after 37 years. Shatrughan confirmed in a press meet that Hema agreed to the film only after he personally called her and said, 'Let’s give the audience one last laugh together.' She said yes the same day.
