• In Do Aur Do Paanch (1980), Kader Khan played the straight-laced, morally upright brother to Shreeram Lagoo's corrupt, scheming villain. Their scenes crackle because Khan's character keeps trying to reform Lagoo's — and Lagoo keeps outsmarting him with a smirk. Khan set the moral pace; Lagoo broke it.
• Despite playing bitter rivals on screen, Kader Khan and Shreeram Lagoo were close off it. Lagoo, a trained stage actor and surgeon, often helped Khan rehearse his dialogue delivery for the theatrical, loud style that 80s Hindi cinema demanded — a skill Khan later credited for his own comic timing.
• Their first film together, Do Aur Do Paanch (1980), was originally supposed to have a different actor opposite Kader Khan. But director Rakesh Roshan saw Lagoo's stage work in a Marathi play and insisted on casting him — specifically to match Khan's verbal sparring ability. Lagoo agreed only after Khan personally called him to say, 'I need someone who can keep up.'
• The only film where they played allies instead of enemies — Badi Bahen (1993) — was also their last together. It flopped hard, but it directly inspired a lesser-known TV serial on Doordarshan called 'Bhai Behen' (1995), which tried to replicate their brotherly dynamic. It didn't work.
