• Ambika was already a star when she signed Raja Rishi (1985). Vijayakumar was a character actor with no romantic lead hits. The director, A. P. Nagarajan, bet on their age gap to sell the film — and it worked.
• In Maaveeran (1986), Ambika’s character drives most of the emotional beats while Vijayakumar plays the stoic hero. She reportedly coached him on delivering softer dialogue in their scenes together — he later said she 'taught him how to act with his eyes'.
• After Maaveeran flopped, the two didn't speak for over a decade. They only reunited for Jodi (1999) because the producer begged them — and they shot their scenes on separate days. No photos of them together from that film exist.
• Vijayakumar told a Tamil magazine in 2000: 'Ambika was the only co-star who made me nervous. She had this way of looking at you that said, “Keep up.” I never matched her speed.'
• Their pairing in Raja Rishi directly inspired the 1987 film Manathil Uruthi Vendum — where the director cast a similar age-gap duo (Suhasini and Vijayakanth) hoping to repeat the magic. It didn't.
