• They first met on the sets of Moondru Mugam (1982). Sathyaraj was a newcomer then. Thengai Srinivasan, already a veteran comedian, reportedly took him aside after the first day of shoot and said, 'You have the timing. Just trust it.' That film put both of them on the map in a new way.
• In Nooravathu Naal (1984), Sathyaraj played a serious cop while Thengai played a bumbling sidekick. The trick was: Thengai never tried to be funny. He played it straight, letting Sathyaraj's frustration fuel the comedy. Sathyaraj later said that Thengai taught him 'how to be the straight man without being boring.'
• Their pairing in Kaakki Sattai (1985) was so popular that it directly inspired the comedy track in the 1990 film 'Pudhu Vasantham' — where a young cop and his quirky informant recreate the same dynamic. That film launched a whole new generation of comedy duos in Tamil cinema.
• During the shoot of Mandhira Punnagai (1986), Thengai Srinivasan was battling severe diabetes. Sathyaraj would personally bring him home-cooked meals between takes, making sure he ate on time. Thengai's family later said Sathyaraj was 'more like a younger brother than a co-star.'
• Sathyaraj once said in a 2010 interview: 'Thengai Srinivasan was the only actor who could make me laugh even when I was supposed to be angry on screen. He'd do one thing with his eyebrow, and I'd break character. We had to reshoot so many scenes because of him.'
• In Muthukkal Moondru (1987), their last film together, they played father and son. Thengai deliberately slowed down his delivery to match Sathyaraj's natural rhythm. Sathyaraj later admitted that scene — where they argue over a family secret — was the only time he genuinely cried on camera because Thengai's timing made the emotion hit real.
