• They first met on the set of En Magan (1973) because director M. A. Thirumugam needed a fresh comic pair. Ramasamy was already a stage veteran; Ganthimathi was a newcomer. Ramasamy insisted on auditioning with her before agreeing to the film — he wanted to see if their timing clicked. It did, and they never looked back.
• In Unnai Suttrum Ulagam (1977), Ramasamy would deliberately pause mid-dialogue to let Ganthimathi's facial reactions land the punchline. He called it 'passing the ball' — he set the rhythm, she scored the laugh. That film's comedy track is still cited by Tamil TV writers as a masterclass in timing.
• Their pairing in Mangala Vaathiyam (1979) directly inspired director K. Bhagyaraj to cast them together again in Tharaasu (1984). Bhagyaraj later said he wrote the entire comic subplot around their specific back-and-forth — no other actors could have pulled it off.
• Off-screen, they were polar opposites. Ramasamy was strict and rarely smiled between takes; Ganthimathi was chatty and kept the crew laughing. But on every single film, she would bring him a cup of filter coffee before the first shot — a ritual she started on En Magan and never broke until their last film together.
