The Brahmanandam & Trivikram Srinivas partnership

Their work runs across 3 decades of Telugu cinema. From Malliswari (2004) to Guntur Kaaram (2024). Their most recent film, Guntur Kaaram, came out in 2024 — the partnership is still active.

Khaleja is the one most viewers reach for. It started with Malliswari (2004).

The shape of the work

The 2000s belonged to Malliswari; the 2020s to Guntur Kaaram. Never on the same side of the camera — Brahmanandam actor, Trivikram Srinivas director, across all 9 films. Strictly Telugu cinema — they never crossed industries together.

Partnership facts

  • Trivikram didn't initially write 'Julai' (2012) for Brahmanandam. He wrote a small role for a different comedian. Brahmanandam heard the script narration and begged Trivikram to let him play the 'Brahmi' character instead. Trivikram rewrote the entire role overnight to fit his energy.
  • On the sets of 'S/O Satyamurthy' (2015), Trivikram would give Brahmanandam only a one-line situation — no full dialogue. Brahmanandam would then improvise three different versions of the scene. Trivikram picked the best one and wrote the final script around it.
  • The 'Brahmi' character from 'Julai' (2012) became so popular that Trivikram reused the same character name in 'S/O Satyamurthy' (2015) and 'A... Aa' (2016). It's the only recurring character name across Trivikram's filmography — directly because Brahmanandam made it iconic.
  • Brahmanandam never calls Trivikram by his name. He calls him 'Guruvu Garu' (teacher) on set. Trivikram, in turn, refuses to let Brahmanandam call him that — he insists Brahmanandam is the senior artist. They've had this playful argument for every single shoot day across all three films.
  • "Trivikram is the only director who makes me feel like I'm not acting. He gives me a blank cheque and says 'fill it with laughter.' I've never had that freedom with anyone else." — Brahmanandam, during the audio launch of 'A... Aa' (2016).
