• Tigmanshu Dhulia cast Irrfan in Haasil (2003) after seeing him in a small role in a TV show. Irrfan was so desperate for the part that he agreed to shoot for free if the film didn't work. It didn't just work — it put both of them on the map.
• On Paan Singh Tomar (2012), Irrfan would show up to set with pages of rewritten dialogue. Tigmanshu never said no. He let Irrfan reshape the character's voice entirely — the result was a performance that felt like a real man talking, not a script.
• Tigmanshu and Irrfan were friends long before the films. They met at the National School of Drama in the late '80s, where Tigmanshu was a senior. Irrfan later said Tigmanshu was the only director who let him 'be a fool' on set without judgment.
