Partnership facts

• Despite playing arch-enemies in all four films, Prem Chopra and Dharmendra were close friends off-screen. They often drove together to outdoor shoots in Prem's car, and Dharmendra would insist Prem sit in the front seat — a rare gesture for a supporting actor.
• In 'Mard Ki Zabaan' (1987), Prem Chopra played the villain and Dharmendra the hero — but Prem actually set the pace for their fight scenes. Dharmendra later admitted Prem's timing was so sharp that he had to match his energy, not the other way around.
• Prem Chopra once joked in an interview: 'Dharam and I never had a single argument on set. We saved all our fights for the camera.' He said this while recalling the shoot of 'Tyaagi' (1992).
• Their first film together, 'Mard Ki Zabaan' (1987), was originally offered to another actor as the villain. But Prem Chopra personally called the producer and asked to be cast opposite Dharmendra — he wanted to test his own screen presence against a superstar.
• The only reason 'Aazmayish' (1995) got made was because Prem and Dharmendra pushed the producer to greenlight it. They had enjoyed working together so much on 'Virodhi' (1992) that they promised to do the film at a reduced fee — a rare move for two established stars.
