• Om Shivpuri was the one who brought Asrani into Raj Mahal (1982). He convinced the director that Asrani's comic timing would balance the film's dark thriller tone. Asrani later said that call changed his career.
• In Naya Kadam (1984), Asrani and Om Shivpuri played off each other like a straight man and a live wire. Shivpuri would set up a tense scene with his deadpan delivery, then Asrani would break it with a sudden comic outburst. They never rehearsed together — they trusted each other to react in the moment.
• During the shoot of Satyamev Jayate (1987), Asrani and Om Shivpuri shared a room in a small hotel in Ooty. Every night, they would read each other's lines for the next day's scene, often rewriting dialogues on napkins. Asrani later called those nights 'film school without a teacher.'
