• They first faced off in 'Chambal Ki Kasam' (1980) because the director, Radhakant, needed two actors who could match each other's intensity in a dacoit drama. Neither was the first choice — the film was a low-budget gamble that accidentally discovered their on-screen friction.
• In 'Naseeb' (1981), Manmohan Desai deliberately pitted them as rivals in the climactic fight scene. Shatrughan's loud, swaggering heroism forced Amjad to dial down his usual theatrical menace — the result was a quieter, more coiled villainy that Amjad rarely showed elsewhere.
• Their pairing in 'Chor Police' (1983) was the first time both played cops on the same side — no villain-hero dynamic. That film directly inspired the 'jodi cop' trend in the 80s, leading to films like 'Mard' and 'Shahenshah' where two stars shared equal screen time as lawmen.
• Despite playing bitter rivals on screen, Shatrughan and Amjad were close friends off it.
