The Kota Srinivasa Rao & Srihari partnership

After 10 years apart, they came back together for Karthik Anitha (2009). They didn't share a set between 1999 and 2009. They saved their best for last — Brindavanam (7.0/10) came 16 years in.

Their work runs across 3 decades of Telugu cinema. From Hello Brother (1994) to Police Game (2013).

The shape of the work

The 1990s account for 67% of everything they made together. The 1990s belonged to Sri Ramulayya; the 2010s to Brindavanam. Kota Srinivasa Rao acted in every film; Srihari acted in all of them.

Partnership facts

  • Their first film together, Veedevadandi Babu (1997), was a low-budget comedy where Kota Srinivasa Rao played the villain and Srihari played a sidekick. Neither was the lead — they were just two character actors thrown into the same chaotic set. No one expected them to become a recurring pair.
  • In Sri Ramulayya (1999), Kota played the ruthless landlord and Srihari played the rebel. Their scenes worked because Kota stayed completely still — cold, calculating — while Srihari moved fast, shouted, and brought the physical energy. Kota set the tension; Srihari broke it.
  • Kota Srinivasa Rao was 20 years older than Srihari. On the sets of Aavida Maa Aavide (1998), Kota would pull Srihari aside between shots and teach him how to modulate his voice for comedy — something Srihari wasn't known for. Srihari later said Kota was his 'uncredited acting coach' for that film.
  • Police Game (2013) was their last film together — and the only one where they played cops on the same side. It was a direct-to-DVD release that barely anyone saw. But it marked the end of a 16-year on-screen partnership that never once put them as equals: Kota was always the senior villain, Srihari the younger hero or sidekick.
  • Srihari once said in an interview: 'Kota garu can make you feel scared with just his eyes. I learned that you don't need to shout to be a great villain. He taught me silence.'
