• Their first film together, Bees Saal Baad (1988), was a horror thriller where Mithun played a double role. Anupam was cast as the villain — but the director, Rajkumar Kohli, initially wanted a bigger name for that part. Mithun personally insisted on Anupam, telling Kohli, 'He will steal the show.' He did.
• In Tadipaar (1993), Mithun played a violent gangster, and Anupam played a corrupt cop. The film's most intense scene — a face-off in a police station — was shot in one take because both actors refused to break character. Mithun later said Anupam's silence in that scene made him angrier than any dialogue could.
• C Kkompany (2008) was a comedy where Anupam played a retired actor and Mithun played his fan-turned-friend. The film directly inspired the 2011 hit 'The Lunchbox' — director Ritesh Batra has said he loved the quiet, unspoken bond between the two leads in C Kkompany and wanted to recreate that warmth.
• On the sets of Bhrashtachar (1989), Mithun discovered that Anupam was struggling with a personal loss. Without telling anyone, Mithun quietly arranged for Anupam's family to visit the set every weekend for the rest of the shoot. Anupam has called this 'the kindest thing a co-star ever did for me.'
• Anupam Kher, on working with Mithun in The Kashmir Files (2022): 'He didn't need to say a word. In our scene together, he just looked at me, and I forgot my lines. That's the power he has — he makes you a better actor by just being there.'
• Their 2026 film Fauzi marks the first time both actors have played grandfathers on screen together. The film's young lead, a debutante named Rohan Mehra, was personally recommended by Mithun to the director after seeing him in a theatre workshop. Anupam then mentored Rohan for three months before shooting began.
