Partnership facts

• Amjad Khan was the one who insisted Shreeram Lagoo be cast as the villain in Laawaris (1981). Lagoo was primarily a theatre legend and had barely done Hindi films. Khan told director Prakash Mehra that Lagoo's voice would give the film a 'different menace'.
• In Daulat (1982), Khan and Lagoo played father and son. Lagoo later said in an interview that Khan deliberately slowed down his own dialogue delivery in their scenes together, so Lagoo's theatrical pauses wouldn't look out of place in a masala film.
• Despite playing bitter rivals on screen, Khan and Lagoo were close off it. Lagoo once revealed that Khan would drive 40 km out of his way to drop him home after every night shoot, even when Lagoo insisted he could take a taxi.
• "Amjad was the only actor who could make me laugh between takes. He'd do Gabbar's lines in a falsetto voice and I'd forget my own dialogue." — Shreeram Lagoo, in a 1995 interview with Screen magazine.
• Their pairing in Jeeva (1986) was the first time a mainstream Hindi film cast two older male actors as the central conflict — no hero, no love interest. The film bombed, but it directly inspired the 1990 cult hit 'Agneepath' to use a similar villain-vs-villain structure.
