• Vikram was already a star when Dhill (2001) happened, but Vivek was still finding his footing as a comedian. Director Dharani specifically paired them because he wanted a comic who could match Vikram's intensity — not just crack jokes, but hold his own in dramatic scenes. That gamble paid off: their first scene together in Dhill got a whistle from the audience.
• In Dhool (2003), Vivek's character was written as a sidekick who actually drives the plot forward — not just a punchline machine. Vikram insisted that Vivek get equal screen time in the comedy track, and the result was the 'Kovai Brothers' sequence, which became a template for buddy comedies in Tamil cinema for the next decade.
