• In 'Vijeta' (1982), Rekha was the first choice for the role of the mother. But she agreed only on one condition — that Dina Pathak play her mother-in-law. Rekha personally called Dina to convince her to take the part.
• On the set of 'Ijaazat' (1987), Rekha would deliberately slow down her dialogue delivery to match Dina Pathak's natural rhythm. Dina, in turn, would pause mid-sentence to let Rekha's silences land. They built scenes like a call-and-response — no one else could keep that tempo.
• The mother-daughter-in-law dynamic they created in 'Vijeta' (1982) directly inspired the casting of Shabana Azmi and Dina Pathak in 'Massey' (1985). The director of 'Massey' admitted he wanted the same 'unspoken understanding' Rekha and Dina had.
