• Ilavarasu and Gajendran first shared screen space in 'Kalabha Kadhalan' (2006) because the director needed two actors who could switch between comedy and menace in the same scene. Gajendran was already a known comedian; Ilavarasu was still finding his footing. The director paired them specifically to let Ilavarasu learn timing from Gajendran on set.
• In 'Cheena Thaana 001' (2007), Gajendran played the straight man while Ilavarasu did all the physical comedy. But they swapped roles mid-film for a chase sequence — Ilavarasu went deadpan, Gajendran went slapstick. That switch became the film's most replayed bit.
• On the sets of 'Velayudham' (2011), Ilavarasu and Gajendran shared a single makeup van even though the production gave them separate ones. They said it was easier to rehearse their overlapping dialogues that way. The habit stuck for all their later films together.
• Their double-act in 'Maanga' (2015) directly inspired the comedy track in the 2018 film 'Kadaikutty Singam' — the director of that film told a magazine he rewatched their scenes from 'Maanga' to study how two actors can make a single joke land without stepping on each other's lines.
• Gajendran once said in an interview: 'Ilavarasu doesn't act with you — he listens to you. That's rare. Most actors wait for their turn to speak. He waits for your breath to finish.'
• In 'Kanavu Variyam' (2017), their last film together, they played brothers who hate each other. The director said they deliberately never rehearsed the big fight scene — they wanted the anger to feel raw. Ilavarasu later admitted Gajendran actually slapped him harder than planned, and he stayed in character by not breaking for 10 minutes.
