• Prashanth and Charle first met on the set of Vaigasi Poranthachu (1990). Charle was a theatre actor making his film debut. Prashanth was already a star kid. The director, Mani Ratnam's assistant, cast Charle because he needed someone who could match Prashanth's energy in a street fight scene. Charle got the role after a single audition.
• In Hello (1999), Charle played Prashanth's sidekick. But Charle actually improvised most of his lines. Prashanth would then adjust his timing to match Charle's rhythm. The director later said Charle's spontaneity made Prashanth loosen up on screen.
• During the shoot of Aasaiyil Oru Kaditham (1999), Prashanth and Charle shared a room in a small lodge in Kodaikanal for three weeks. They would rehearse scenes at night by candlelight because the power kept cutting. Charle later said Prashanth taught him how to hit marks for the camera.
• Parthen Rasithen (2000) was the last film they made together. But it directly led to Charle getting his first lead role in a separate film. The director of that film saw Charle's comic timing opposite Prashanth and offered him a full-fledged comedy lead.
• In Kadhal Kavithai (1998), Prashanth played a rich guy and Charle played his poor friend. The director made them swap roles for one rehearsal. Prashanth's version of the poor friend was too polished. Charle's version of the rich guy was too loud. They stuck to their original parts after that.
