Partnership facts

• They first shared screen space in Thiruppam (1984) because director R. Sundarrajan needed a pair that could balance action and sentiment. Prabhu was the rising star, Jaishankar the established veteran — the gamble was whether the age gap would work. It did.
• In Sarithira Nayagan (1984), Jaishankar played the older, authoritative figure while Prabhu played the impulsive younger brother. The trick was that Jaishankar deliberately slowed his dialogue delivery to let Prabhu's energy pop — a rhythm they kept across all four films.
• Nambinar Keduvathillai (1986) was the only film where they played equals — both as cops. That film directly inspired the buddy-cop template later used in S. P. Muthuraman's 1990s hits, though nobody credits it.
• On the sets of Nalaya Manithan (1989), Jaishankar would quietly correct Prabhu's Tamil diction between takes. Prabhu later said Jaishankar treated him like a younger brother, not a co-star.
