Partnership facts

• Karthik was the one who pushed for Jai Ganesh to play the villain in Kalicharan (1988). The director wanted a bigger name, but Karthik insisted Jai Ganesh had the right intensity. That film bombed (1/10), but it locked them as a pair.
• In Seeman (1994), Jai Ganesh deliberately slowed down his dialogue delivery to match Karthik's raw, emotional style. Karthik later said that Jai Ganesh's pauses made him raise his own performance — the scene where they face off in the courtroom still gets quoted in Tamil film buff circles.
• After Udhavikku Varalaamaa (1998) wrapped, Karthik and Jai Ganesh made a pact: they would never negotiate salary against each other. If one got a raise, the other would get the same. They kept that promise until Rojavanam (1999).
• The success of Seeman (1994) directly led to a wave of 'brother vs brother' revenge films in Tamil cinema through the late 90s. At least three low-budget directors have admitted they copied the Seeman template because of how Karthik and Jai Ganesh played off each other.
• Karthik once told a magazine: 'Jai Ganesh is the only co-star who made me forget my lines. Not because he distracted me — because I was watching him act.' He said this during the Rojavanam (1999) press meet.
