• Director A. P. Nagarajan cast them together for the first time in 'Kumudam' (1961) because he wanted two actors who could switch between comedy and pathos in the same scene. Radha was known for villain roles, Ranga Rao for character parts — Nagarajan bet the film on them balancing each other's energy.
• In 'Saradha' (1962), Radha played the abusive husband and Ranga Rao played the compassionate father. Ranga Rao deliberately underplayed his scenes — he told the director he'd let Radha's loud anger do the work, then hit the emotional beats with silence.
