Vasan cast them specifically to create a shocking contrast — Radha's menacing presence against Devika's fragile innocence — and it worked so well that audiences hissed at Radha in theaters.
• In Bale Pandiya (1962), Radha deliberately slowed down his dialogue delivery during their confrontation scene to let Prameela Devika's reactions land first.
