• Their first film together, Nooravathu Naal (1984), was a remake of the Hindi hit Khoon Bhari Maang. Sathyaraj was cast as the villain, but Nalini — already a star — insisted he be given more screen time. The director agreed, and their pairing clicked instantly.
• In Eetti (1985) — a film that tanked with a 1/10 rating — Nalini reportedly rewrote her own lines on set because the original script made her character too passive. Sathyaraj, playing the hero, matched her energy by improvising his reactions. The scene where she slaps him was entirely unscripted.
• Their 1985 film Geetanjali was the first Tamil movie to feature a female protagonist who openly rejects the hero's advances without being punished by the plot. That character template directly influenced the lead in Mani Ratnam's Mouna Ragam (1986).
• During the shoot of Iravu Pookkal (1986), Nalini's mother passed away. Sathyaraj quietly took over her scenes for two days — standing in for her in long shots and delivering her lines off-camera — so the production wouldn't shut down. She never forgot it.
• They almost never worked together after 1988. The reason: Nalini quit acting to focus on her family, and Sathyaraj shifted to character roles. Their last film, Kazhugumalai Kallan (1988), was shot in 12 days because both knew it was the end of an era.
