• Thirumugham and Saroja Devi had a standing ritual: before every first shot of a new film, she'd hand him a betel leaf and he'd give her a jasmine flower. They did this for all six films, never missing a single one.
• Thirumugham cast Saroja Devi in 'Yanai Paagan' (1960) after seeing her in a small Kannada film. He bet the producer she'd be a hit — and she was. That film put both of them on the map in Tamil cinema.
• On the sets of 'Kudumba Thalaivan' (1962), Saroja Devi would often rewrite her own lines in Tamil because Thirumugham's original dialogue felt too stagey. He let her do it. That film became their highest-rated collaboration.
• Their 1963 film 'Needhikkuppin Paasam' directly inspired a young K. Balachander to write his first courtroom drama. He later said he watched it seven times in a theatre near Madras Central.
