• MGR and Padmini first paired up in Raja Desingu (1960) only because the original heroine walked out. The director needed a last-minute replacement, and Padmini stepped in — that film became a hit and locked them as a pair for the next 16 years.
• In Rickshawkaran (1971), MGR played a poor rickshaw puller while Padmini played a wealthy woman. The contrast worked because Padmini deliberately softened her upper-class body language on set — she told MGR she wanted the audience to believe she could fall for him, not just act rich.
• Off-screen, MGR and Padmini had a strict no-touch rule during rehearsals. They only held hands or embraced in front of the camera. Padmini later said it was MGR's idea — he wanted their on-screen romance to feel fresh every time, not rehearsed.

• After Uzhaikkum Karangal (1976), they never worked together again — not because of a fight, but because MGR became Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Padmini was the one who suggested they stop: 'Let your last film with me be about workers' rights. It fits your new life.'
