• Bharathiraja didn't plan to cast Manivannan in Kodi Parakuthu. Manivannan walked into the office, heard the script, and insisted he play the villain. Bharathiraja gave in after Manivannan acted out the entire climax on the spot.
• On the sets of Tamizh Selvan, Bharathiraja would write dialogues in the morning and hand them to Manivannan, who would rewrite them in his own slang during lunch. The final film is a mix of both their voices — Bharathiraja's rural poetry and Manivannan's street wit.
• Taj Mahal (1999) was the first Tamil film to use a single song sequence to advance the plot across three timelines. That technique later became a signature of directors like Selvaraghavan and Vetrimaaran, who both cited this film as an influence.
