• Their first film together, University (2002), was a low-budget college drama where both were relative newcomers. Bhaskar was a theatre veteran making his early film move, and Ilavarasu was fresh off smaller roles. The director paired them specifically because both could switch between comedy and intensity in the same scene — a skill that became their trademark later.
• In Parking (2023), Bhaskar played the stubborn old man and Ilavarasu played his equally stubborn neighbor. The entire comedy tension came from them refusing to break eye contact during arguments. Ilavarasu later said in an interview that Bhaskar would deliberately pause mid-dialogue to make him react naturally — a trick that turned their petty feud into the film's most quoted scenes.
• Their 2011 film Velayudham was a Vijay mass entertainer, but the real ripple came from Eththan (also 2011). That film's dark comedy tone — driven entirely by Bhaskar and Ilavarasu's back-and-forth as two hapless criminals — directly inspired a wave of small-budget Tamil dark comedies in the following years, including Soodhu Kavvum (2013).
• On the sets of 36 Vayathinile (2015), Bhaskar and Ilavarasu shared a room during the entire shoot in Kodaikanal. They would rehearse their scenes at night by candlelight because the power kept cutting. Ilavarasu later said those sessions taught him how to time a punchline — Bhaskar would count seconds on his fingers until the exact beat.
• Ilavarasu once said about Bhaskar: 'He doesn't act with you. He acts at you. You have to catch the ball he throws, or the scene falls flat. That's why we work — I know how to catch.' He said this during a 2023 interview about Parking.
• In Etharkkum Thunindhavan (2022), they played father and son for the first time. Bhaskar deliberately underplayed every line, forcing Ilavarasu to carry the emotional weight. The director later revealed that Bhaskar told him: 'Make him cry. I'll just stand there and look tired. That's the real father-son dynamic.'
