• Danny Denzongpa was the one who pushed for Amrish Puri to play the villain in 'Ghatak' (1996). The director Rajkumar Santoshi originally wanted a younger actor. Danny told Santoshi: 'Amrish will bring the weight this role needs.' Santoshi agreed, and Puri delivered one of his most menacing performances.
• In 'Sangram' (1993), Danny and Amrish had a face-off scene where neither blinked for over two minutes. The director let the camera roll without cutting. Danny later said that Amrish's stillness forced him to stay completely in character — one wrong twitch and the scene would have collapsed.
• The success of 'Ghatak' (1996) directly led to Amrish Puri being cast as the main villain in 'China Gate' (1998). The producer saw how Puri and Danny's clash elevated the film and wanted that same intensity for a larger ensemble. Without their pairing in 'Ghatak', that role might have gone to someone else.
• Danny and Amrish shared a ritual before every scene together: they would shake hands and say 'Let's make it real' in Nepali. Danny taught Amrish the phrase because he wanted their hostility on screen to feel earned. They did this for all three films, even when the cameras weren't rolling.
• Amrish Puri once said about Danny: 'He is the only actor who made me forget I was acting. When he looks at me, I become the villain. Not because he is scary — because he is so honest.' He said this during a 1997 interview on the sets of 'China Gate'.
