• Their first film together, Kali Ganga (1990), was a B-grade horror flick where Prem Chopra played a villainous tantrik. Govinda was already a star by then, but Prem had been playing villains for decades. The director, Shyam Ramsay, paired them specifically because he wanted a 'hero vs. veteran menace' dynamic — and Govinda later admitted he was nervous acting opposite Prem because of his iconic 'Prem naam hai mera' aura.
• In Raja Babu (1994), Prem Chopra played the scheming uncle, and Govinda played the comic hero. The key to their on-screen tension was timing: Prem would deliver his lines with a slow, theatrical menace, and Govinda would undercut him with a quick, goofy reaction. Director David Dhawan said in an interview that Prem deliberately paused an extra beat before his punchlines to let Govinda's comic timing land harder.
• Their 2019 film Rangeela Raja was Govinda's last theatrical release before his long break from movies. It was also the only film in their six-film collaboration that was declared a 'hit' at the box office — but it's infamous for being a bizarre, low-budget comedy where Govinda played a double role and Prem Chopra played a blind man. The film's cult status today is entirely because of how weird it is, and it's the reason younger audiences even know these two worked together.
• Despite playing villains opposite Govinda in most of their films, Prem Chopra was a close family friend of the Govinda household. Govinda's wife Sunita would often cook for Prem on set, and Prem once joked that he only agreed to do Kaun Rokega Mujhe (1997) because Sunita promised him her special dal makhani.
• Prem Chopra once said about Govinda: 'He is the only hero who made me laugh so hard during a scene that I forgot my lines. In Raja Babu, I had to turn my back to the camera to hide my smile.' He said this in a 2018 interview with Lehren TV.
