• They first shot together for Shaan (1980), but the film that actually made them a hit pair was Kaalia (1981). That film was a blockbuster, and it cemented the 'angry young man meets glamorous damsel' template they'd ride for the next two years.
• In Namak Halaal (1982), Bachchan played a goofy waiter and Babi played a sharp hotel manager. She set the comic pace — her deadpan reactions made his over-the-top antics land. Without her straight face, his slapstick would've felt flat.
