• Raj Khosla cast Shatrughan Sinha in Dostana (1980) after seeing his raw intensity in a negative role. Sinha was initially hesitant to play a positive lead for Khosla, but the director convinced him by promising a role that would use his 'angry young man' energy differently.
• On the sets of Dostana, Khosla would deliberately keep Sinha waiting before a scene. He told Sinha that the frustration would make his dialogue delivery sharper. Sinha later admitted that this trick worked — it gave his performance an edge that Amitabh Bachchan's usual co-stars lacked.
• After Dostana became a hit, Khosla and Sinha made a pact: they would do one film together every two years. They broke that pact after Maati Maangey Khoon (1984) flopped so badly that Khosla stopped returning Sinha's calls for months.
• Shatrughan Sinha once said about Raj Khosla: 'He was the only director who could make me cry on screen without making me look weak. In Dostana, he made me do a scene where I break down — and I didn't even know I had that in me.'
• The success of Dostana directly led to Raj Khosla casting Sinha in two more films back-to-back in 1984. But both Maati Maangey Khoon and Meraa Dost Meraa Dushman bombed so hard that no other major director paired them again — effectively ending their collaboration.
