• Murali and Charle first met on the sets of Poovilangu (1984) — but they weren't supposed to share a single scene. The director, K. Vijayan, saw them chatting during a tea break and rewrote a sequence on the spot to pair them up. That impromptu scene became the film's most talked-about moment.
• In Endrum Anbudan (1992), Charle would deliberately flub his lines during rehearsals to make Murali laugh. Murali, known for his deadpan delivery, told a magazine later that Charle's goofing forced him to stay loose — and that's why their comic timing felt so natural on screen.
• Their only hit together, Poovilangu (1984), directly inspired a wave of buddy-comedy subplots in Tamil cinema through the late '80s. Director K. Vijayan later admitted he cast them again in Endrum Anbudan (1992) specifically to recreate that 'accidental magic' — but the sequel never matched the original's box office.
• After Gemini (2002) flopped, Murali and Charle stopped speaking for nearly a decade. The reason? A petty argument over who got to keep a prop watch from the set. They only reconciled in 2012 at a mutual friend's wedding — and never worked together again.
