Partnership facts

• Their first film together, Mann Vasanai (1983), was also the debut of director Bharathiraja's younger brother. Ravi and Janagaraj were both relative newcomers, and the film's success put both their names on the map in Tamil cinema.
• In Thambikku Entha Ooru (1984), Janagaraj played the comic sidekick to Ravi's lead. Their timing was so sharp that the film's comedy track became the template for many buddy-comedies that followed in the 80s.
• The duo's 1994 film Purushanai Kaikulla Poottukanum was a rare comedy where Janagaraj's character actually outsmarted Ravi's — a reversal of their usual dynamic. That film directly inspired a wave of 'wife vs husband' comedies in the mid-90s.
• Janagaraj once revealed in an interview that during the shoot of Kadarkarai Thaagam (1988), Ravi would drive him home every night after pack-up, even though Janagaraj lived 30 km out of the way. They'd stop for tea and talk about the next day's scenes.
