Partnership facts

• Charlie was a newcomer when director Robert–Rajasekar cast him opposite M. N. Nambiar in Mella Thirandhathu Kadhavu (1986). Nambiar, already a veteran villain, reportedly asked for Charlie specifically after seeing his stage work — he wanted a fresh face who could match his intensity without being intimidated.
• In Nallavan (1988), Nambiar played the ruthless father to Charlie's son. The film's climax — a face-off where Charlie's character finally stands up to Nambiar — was shot in one continuous take. Nambiar later told the director that Charlie's raw anger in that scene made him genuinely flinch for the first time in years.
• During the shoot of Manamagale Vaa (1988), Nambiar would pull Charlie aside between shots and teach him how to modulate his voice for the villain role. Charlie later said Nambiar treated him like a son on set — even scolding him when he messed up his lines.
• Poove Unakkaga (1996) was their last film together — and it launched a new phase for both. Charlie played a negative role for the first time, directly inspired by Nambiar's style. The film's success led to Charlie getting more villain offers, while Nambiar's performance in it was cited by younger actors as a masterclass in restraint.
