• Their first film together, Kaadhalikka Neramillai (1964), was a romantic comedy where Nagesh played the hero and Kanchana the heroine. Director C. V. Sridhar specifically paired them because he wanted a fresh, non-macho hero opposite Kanchana's modern city girl — and Nagesh's comic timing made the romance feel real, not forced.
• In Motor Sundaram Pillai (1966), Nagesh played a bumbling auto driver and Kanchana played his sharp-tongued wife. The comedy came from her setting the pace — she'd deliver a rapid-fire line, then pause just long enough for Nagesh to react with a confused face. That rhythm became their signature.
• Their 1967 film Adhey Kangal was a psychological thriller that directly inspired the 2012 Tamil hit Naan Ee (the Tamil dub of Eega). The core twist — a dead man's spirit using a fly to take revenge — was lifted from this Nagesh-Kanchana film. Director Mysskin has openly credited it.
• Nagesh and Kanchana were close friends off-screen. On the sets of Shanti Nilayam (1969), they had a running joke: every time a scene required them to cry, Kanchana would pinch Nagesh's arm just before the camera rolled to make him tear up naturally. He never complained.
• Kanchana once said in an interview: 'Nagesh never acted like a hero. He acted like a real man — one who could laugh at himself. That's why our love scenes worked. He made me feel safe to be silly.'
• In Uttharavindri Ulle Vaa (1971), a comedy about a ghost, Nagesh improvised an entire scene where he tried to prove Kanchana's ghost was fake by walking through her — and accidentally fell into a pond. Kanchana broke character and laughed so hard they had to reshoot. The director kept the blooper in the final cut.
