• Janagaraj was a popular comedian in the 90s, but for Amaran (1992), director R. Sarathkumar initially wanted a different actor for the comic role. Vijayakumar personally recommended Janagaraj, insisting he was the only one who could balance the film's dark tone with levity. That call got Janagaraj the part.
• In Baashha (1995), Vijayakumar played the stern father to Rajinikanth's character, while Janagaraj played the comic sidekick. Their scenes together had no overlap — Vijayakumar's heavy dialogue delivery and Janagaraj's rapid-fire one-liners never shared a frame. They only acted together in Amaran and Jodi, where they actually exchanged lines.
• Jodi (1999) was the only film where Vijayakumar and Janagaraj played friends on screen. That film's comic track — where Janagaraj's character keeps mistaking Vijayakumar's serious advice for jokes — directly inspired a similar dynamic in the 2002 comedy 'Baba' (though that film had different actors).
• Vijayakumar and Janagaraj were close friends off-screen. During the shoot of Amaran (1992), Janagaraj would drive Vijayakumar home every night because the latter didn't own a car. They stayed in touch even after both stopped getting lead roles, meeting for coffee in Chennai until Janagaraj's health declined in the late 2000s.
• Janagaraj once said in a 2001 interview: 'Vijayakumar sir taught me that comedy doesn't need to be loud. In Amaran, he would just stare at me, and I would break into laughter. That's the scene audiences remember — not my lines, but his face.'
