• Sridevi was already a huge star in Telugu and Malayalam when she signed Vanakkatukuriya Kathaliye (1978). Vijayakumar was a relatively new face. The director, S. P. Muthuraman, paired them specifically because he wanted a fresh-looking couple — Sridevi's star power would draw crowds, but Vijayakumar's boy-next-door vibe would balance her glamour.
• In Pagalil Oru Iravu (1979), Vijayakumar played a blind man. Sridevi had to guide his movements in several key scenes. She would tap his shoulder twice before every take — once to signal 'I'm here,' and once to start walking. He later said that rhythm made their emotional scenes feel real.
• Sigappukkal Mookkuthi (1979) was the first Tamil film where Sridevi played a double role. That film's success directly led to her being cast in the Hindi double-role blockbuster Himmatwala (1983). Without this Tamil experiment, Bollywood might never have seen her as a double-role queen.
• Vijayakumar and Sridevi never became close friends off-screen. He later admitted in an interview that she was 'very professional, very distant' on set. They would rehearse, shoot, and then go to separate vans. No shared lunches, no phone calls after pack-up.
• Vijayakumar once said about working with Sridevi: 'She was a machine. You give her a scene, she does it perfectly in one take. I had to work hard to keep up. She never made me feel small, but I knew I was acting with a superstar.'
