• Manobala cast Ranjitha in 'Muttrugai' (1993) after seeing her in a small role in a Malayalam film. He later said he picked her because she had 'sad eyes that could switch to anger in a second' — exactly what his script needed.
• On the sets of 'Thozhar Pandian' (1994), Manobala would deliberately not give Ranjitha her full dialogue sheet before a scene. He wanted her reactions to feel raw and unplanned. She later admitted it made her furious — but the takes were always the ones he kept.
• During the shoot of 'Taj Mahal' (1999), Ranjitha was going through a personal crisis. Manobala quietly rescheduled her scenes for three weeks without telling the producers. She found out only years later from a crew member.
• The song sequence 'Unnai Nambi' from 'Muttrugai' (1993) was later directly referenced by a younger director in a 2010 film — Manobala's own son, who grew up watching that shoot and recreated the lighting setup as a tribute.
