• Thengai Srinivasan was a popular comedian when he was cast in Arunodhayam (1971). But Mukta V. Srinivasan was a newcomer director. Thengai took a pay cut to work with him because he liked the script. That film launched Mukta's directorial career.
• In Andhaman Kadhali (1978), Mukta wrote a long monologue for Thengai's character. Thengai improvised half of it on set. Mukta kept the camera rolling. That scene became the film's most talked-about moment.
• Mukta and Thengai were neighbours in Chennai for over a decade. They would walk to each other's houses to discuss scenes. No phone calls. Just a knock on the door.
